Where We Are
We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 19th century textile mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If you need assistance, give us a call and we'll come down.
Humidity
Upstate New York winters are brutal on acoustic guitars. Heated indoor air drops humidity hard in January and February. Martins, being among the most precisely built acoustics in production, show the damage fastest: cracked tops, lifted bridges, sharp fret ends, separated binding. We see this every spring. More on the mechanism: how humidity affects your guitar. Regional context: why Upstate NY is harder on guitars than most players realize.
A Martin with a humidifier, a proper case, and weekly monitoring above 45% humidity lasts generations. A Martin without that routine gets expensive structural repair within a decade. If humidity management isn't something you'll actually commit to, we'd rather talk it through before you buy.
Body Size First, Specs Second
The biggest decision in a Martin purchase is body size. A D-18 and a 000-18 have nearly identical specs except body size and they're completely different guitars. Dreadnought projects hard. 000 is tighter and more focused, better for fingerstyle. OM has the 000 body with a longer scale length. 15 Series all-mahogany is warmer and drier than a spruce top.
You figure this out by playing them side by side. Plan an hour if you're seriously comparing.
Standard Series
D-18, D-28, 000-18, 000-28, OM-28. These are the Martins most buyers circle back to. Inventory rotates. Not every model is on the wall every day. Call first if you're coming in for a specific Standard Series model.
Road Series
Martin voice and build quality, imported components to bring the price down. Not a Standard Series guitar, but not pretending to be either. For players who want the Martin feel without the Standard Series investment.
15 Series
All-mahogany construction. Warmer, drier voice. Less top-end sparkle, more midrange warmth. Often better-tolerated in variable humidity because the simpler construction gives slightly more structural margin.
Used Martins
Used Martins come through regularly. The full Martin collection includes both new and used inventory.
Before You Leave the Shop
Every new Martin leaves with a humidity conversation and, if you want it, a humidifier. Monitored with a hygrometer. We walk you through it at pickup.
A proper setup to your preferences is $79 if you want us to dial the guitar in before you take it home. Most Martin buyers want this — we usually do it same day or on a short turnaround.
