On the wall in September 2026: nine bass sets from D'Addario and Ernie Ball, $21.99 to $49.99: four- and five-string sets in short, long and super long scale, including D'Addario's XL Chromes flatwounds. A bass restring is $25 plus the strings, or bring your own set.

Glens Falls was Wing's Falls, named for the Quaker settler Abraham Wing, until 1788, when his claim to the name of the falls passed to Colonel Johannes Glen of Schenectady.

Which Scale Fits Your Bass

Bass sets are sold by scale length. D'Addario says to measure from where the ball end sits in the bridge, not counting the ball, to the top of the nut, and buy a length that tapers just after the nut. Its short-scale strings taper at the 32-inch mark, medium at 34, long at 36 7/8 and super long at 38. Standard Fender basses are 34-inch scale, and the Squier Sonic Bronco on our wall is a 30-inch short-scale. We stock long, short and super long.

Four or Five Strings

A five-string set adds a low B: .130 on the D'Addario EXL170-5 and the Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 5-String, .135 on the heavier D'Addario EXL160-5. Buy the set for the number of strings on your bass, because a four-string set has no B.

Roundwound or Flatwound

Every bass set on our wall but one is roundwound, with nickel-plated steel wrap. The flatwound is D'Addario's ECB81 XL Chromes, flat stainless ribbon polished smooth, which D'Addario says gives a mellower tone than a roundwound and lists first for jazz.

When to Change Them

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 1902 shirt mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

Restrings and Setups

A bass restring is $25 plus the strings. Strings and parts are always extra, and you're welcome to bring your own. Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate. A standard setup is $79 and a deluxe setup is $109, for electric, acoustic, or bass, strings extra. We're downtown. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory and take the Cooper Street entrance up to the second floor. If you're already downtown, we're about a ten-minute walk from Glen Street.
