Guitar Setup in Glens Falls, NY

A guitar setup at Paul's Guitar Hideout in downtown Glens Falls. $79 standard, $99 specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical). Drop off during shop hours — no appointment.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 19th century textile mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If you need assistance, give us a call and we'll come down.

A Local Service Space for a Growing Scene

The Shirt Factory anchors the arts district in downtown Glens Falls, and the city around it has been changing fast — more restaurants, more galleries, more weekend foot traffic on Glen and Warren. Every growing scene needs a real guitar shop in it, and we're here to be that for Glens Falls: a curated selection of new and used instruments, a repair bench staffed five days a week, and a service space the local players can count on. Drop a guitar off, walk to coffee, run an errand, come back at the end of the week. The shop is in the orbit of the rest of your day, not a destination trip.

What a Setup Includes

Truss rod adjusted to correct relief. Nut slots checked and filed if high. Saddle action dialed to your preference. Intonation verified at the 12th fret. Fresh strings (9s or 10s on electric, light or medium on acoustic by default, or whatever you bring).

Turnaround depends on what's already in the queue. We tell you the real timing at drop-off and turn each one as soon as we can.

Standard vs. Specialty

Standard at $79 covers most guitars. $99 specialty applies to Floyd Rose and other double-locking tremolos, 12-strings, and classicals, all of which take meaningfully more setup time to dial properly. We'll identify the category at drop-off.

Electrical work (pickup swaps, wiring, pot or jack replacement) and any other maintenance or repair work beyond a standard setup is priced separately. If we find something at the bench that needs more than the setup covers, we tell you what it is and what it costs before any additional work starts.

Cadence for Local Players

Acoustics in this region benefit from a setup twice a year, spring and fall, around the seasonal humidity swing. Electrics typically need it once a year unless you change gauges or tunings. A guitar that hasn't been touched in two or three years is overdue regardless of how it feels. With acoustics especially, small adjustments left alone long enough can lead to bigger structural issues. More on the regional cycle: why Upstate NY is harder on guitars than most players realize.

The Starter Guitar Problem

A beginner's first guitar that plays poorly almost always just needs a $79 setup. The reason new players quit is rarely the player — it's usually a guitar that hasn't been adjusted to the player's hands yet, with action high enough that fretting a clean chord is physically difficult. Bringing a starter guitar in for a setup makes the difference between an instrument that fights you and one that plays right. See when a beginner should get a setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need an appointment?
A: No. Drop off during shop hours, we'll look at the guitar with you and give you turnaround in person.

Q: A starter guitar plays terribly. Is a setup worth it?
A: Almost always yes. Most starter guitars need to be adjusted to the player's hands before they really play right, and a $79 setup is cheaper than replacing the guitar because the first one felt impossible.

Q: What's a standard setup, and when do I need the specialty rate?
A: Standard covers most electrics, acoustics, and basses. Specialty covers Floyd Rose, 12-string, and classical. They take more time to dial properly. We confirm at drop-off.

Q: What if my guitar needs more than a setup?
A: A standard setup is the bench pass: truss rod, action, intonation, strings. Anything beyond that (electrical work, fret leveling, hardware replacement, structural repair) is priced separately. We tell you what we find and what it costs before any additional work starts.

Q: Do you guys buy guitars?
A: Reach out via call or text at (518) 217-8695 to discuss what you have. If it's not right for the shop, we can help direct you in how to sell it elsewhere.
