Travis Gray is a guitarist, performer, and teacher based in the Capital Region. He's the singer and lead guitarist for Wild Adriatic, and has spent years on the road playing shows across the U.S. and Europe.
He has performed at Bonnaroo, SXSW, and Mountain Jam, shared stages with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sublime, and Vulfpeck, and played rooms from Brooklyn Bowl to Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
You can also catch him playing live throughout the summer at the Lake George Beach Club in downtown Lake George.
Travis and Paul grew up playing music together locally — first in a band called Horse in a Box (neither of them named it), then later in The Loyalty. Years later, after touring and doing their own things, they've ended up back in the same room again at Paul's Guitar Hideout.
That shared background carries directly into the shop — not just as a place to buy gear, but a place where players can come in, ask questions, and work on their playing in person.
Today, Travis teaches in-person lessons at Paul's Guitar Hideout inside The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls.
Teaching Approach
His teaching is built around real playing. The focus is on helping students actually play the instrument — not just work through exercises. Lessons can include fundamentals, but also songwriting, performance, phrasing, and how to use the guitar in a musical context. He teaches from the music, not the other way around.
For beginners — chords, simple songs, and how the instrument actually works. For returning players — filling in the gaps, whether that's technique, timing, or fretboard knowledge.
Lessons are adjusted to the individual. Some students want structure. Others bring in songs or ideas they want to work on. The goal is steady, practical progress that carries over outside the lesson.
If your guitar isn't playing well, a setup before your first lesson makes a real difference. We can also help you find a starter guitar from our used guitar inventory if you're just getting started.
If you're not sure where to begin, come in, call, or send a message.
