Guitar Lessons in Glens Falls, NY

Private guitar lessons at Paul's Guitar Hideout are one-on-one, in person, and built around learning to actually play.

Lessons are taught by Travis Gray, singer and lead guitarist for Wild Adriatic. He has spent years touring throughout the U.S. and Europe and has played Bonnaroo, SXSW, Mountain Jam, and stages across the country.

The idea is simple: learn the instrument, understand what you're doing, and spend your time working on music you actually care about.

Lessons are available for complete beginners, kids, adults starting later in life, returning players, and experienced musicians who feel like they've hit a wall.

Meet your instructor: Travis Gray

Who Lessons Are For

  • Kids picking up the guitar for the first time
  • Adults who have always wanted to learn
  • Complete beginners with no previous experience
  • Returning players getting back into it
  • Experienced players trying to get past a plateau
  • Players who learn better face-to-face than through an app or prerecorded course

You don't need to arrive knowing anything.

And if you've already been playing for twenty years, you don't need to start over at page one.

Guitar Lessons for Kids in Glens Falls

Younger students learn at a pace that fits them.

Some need more repetition and smaller steps. Others connect with the instrument quickly and want to keep moving. Travis adjusts to the student without turning the lesson into homework or watering down what they're learning.

Early lessons usually focus on making the guitar approachable: basic chords, rhythm, simple songs, good playing habits, and enough progress that picking the instrument up at home feels rewarding.

If your child still needs a guitar, we can help you find one that fits properly and is comfortable to play through our First Guitar Help.

Lessons for Adults and Returning Players

There's no wrong age to start playing guitar.

Adult beginners learn the fundamentals while getting to actual music as quickly as possible. You don't have to spend months studying theory before you're allowed to play a song.

For returning and experienced players, lessons can focus on whatever has been getting in the way: technique, timing, fretboard knowledge, rhythm, phrasing, songwriting, improvisation, or parts of the instrument that never quite clicked.

If there's a song you want to learn, that can become the lesson.

If there's something you've written that isn't working, bring that too.

What You'll Actually Learn

Lessons start with the music you want to play and work backward from there.

That might mean getting a chord change clean, tightening your timing, understanding why a riff works, learning your way around the fretboard, working through a solo, or figuring out how to turn an idea into a song.

Technique, rhythm, chords, theory, phrasing, and ear training all have a place. The difference is that they're connected to something you're actually trying to do.

You're not learning something just because it happens to be next in a book.

Travis teaches from the music, not the other way around.

Your Guitar Matters Too

Learning is harder than it needs to be when the instrument itself is fighting you.

Strings that sit unnecessarily high, unstable tuning, an uncomfortable neck, or a guitar that simply isn't a good physical fit can make a beginner assume the problem is their playing.

If your guitar isn't playing properly, we'll tell you. A professional setup can sometimes make a substantial difference.

If you don't have a guitar yet, we can also help you choose an appropriate first instrument rather than guessing online.
