Why Buy Dunlop and MXR From an Authorized Dealer

Dunlop warrants its electronics, which covers the MXR pedals and power supplies, for one year from the date of purchase, handled directly or through the selling dealer, and it may ask for the sales slip. Register the pedal with Dunlop within 14 days of purchase to activate it. A return authorization number from Dunlop's technical support comes before anything ships back, and the warranty doesn't cover shipping, appearance, or damage from accident, abuse, alteration or misuse. The electronics terms are on Dunlop's registration and warranty page. MXR cables are warranted to the original owner for the life of the cable.

The MXR Pedals

The Carbon Copy is the analog delay: bucket-brigade repeats that darken and soften as they fade, slapback at the short end and long washes at the far end, up to 600 ms, with a modulation switch that puts a slow chorus on the repeats, Delay, Mix and Regen knobs, two internal trim pots, true bypass, on a 9-volt battery or an adapter. The Duke of Tone is Analog Man's Prince of Tone built by MXR with through-hole components matched to the original: low gain that stays open, Volume, Drive and Tone, and a three-way switch for Boost, Overdrive and Distortion. It takes no battery.

Powering a Pedalboard

A daisy chain puts one supply's ground into every pedal, and a digital pedal on that chain hums. MXR's answer is isolated outputs. The DC Brick is the plain one: eight 9-volt outputs and two 18-volt outputs, short-circuit protected, not isolated, right for a board of analog pedals. The Mini Iso-Brick is the size of a candy bar with five isolated outputs, four at 9 volts and 300 mA and one switchable to 18 volts at 800 mA, enough for a digital delay or a multi-effect. The Iso-Brick has ten isolated outputs, including two at 18 volts and two variable from 6 to 15 volts, which run a fuzz at a starved-battery voltage on purpose. All three come with the 18-volt adapter.

Tortex, Gauge by Gauge

Tortex is Dunlop's treated Delrin, introduced in 1981 to replace tortoiseshell: a matte surface that holds onto the fingers, a bright attack, and an edge that keeps its shape. The gauges in the standard shape, twelve to a pack: .50 for strumming, .60 light-medium for an acoustic strummer, .73 in the middle of the range, .88 for single notes, 1.0 the lead player's pick with no flex, and 1.14 the stiffest, for hard picking and bass. Beside them, the Jazz III for single-note precision, the Flow thick picks with a beveled edge, and the variety packs for finding yours.

Capos and Straploks

The Pivot Capo self-centers on the back of the neck and sets its pressure with a low-resistance gear, so the chords stay in tune on a fat neck or a flat board; the Classical version has a flat pad for nylon strings. Straploks lock the strap to the guitar until you release them by hand: the Traditional set converts one strap and one guitar, and the Dual Design button sets replace the stock buttons for the Dual Design retainers. We install strap locks for $39.

It's a converted 1902 shirt mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. Glens Falls is a bustling little city that's growing more and more every day: lots of culture, food and natural beauty. The Shirt Factory is the heart of the East End arts district.

We're downtown. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory and take the Cooper Street entrance up to the second floor. If you're already downtown, we're about a ten-minute walk from Glen Street.

Q: Does the Carbon Copy take a battery?
A: Yes, a 9-volt, or a Dunlop ECB003 adapter, or any of the MXR Brick supplies. The Duke of Tone doesn't take a battery at all.

Q: Do Straplok Traditional and Dual Design mix?
A: No. Each pattern has its own retainer and button, and the two don't fit each other. The Traditional set converts one strap and one guitar; the Dual Design buttons take the Dual Design retainers, sold separately.

Q: Do you ship Dunlop and MXR gear?

Q: Can I return an MXR pedal?
A: Yes. Call or text within 7 days of purchase or delivery, before you bring or send it back. For a full refund it has to come back the way it left: clean, unmodified, with the original packaging and everything it came with. If it shows signs of use, a restocking fee of up to 25% may apply, and return shipping is on you. Used picks aren't returnable. Details: return policy.

Q: Can I finance a pedal or a power supply?

Q: Does an MXR pedal from here carry Dunlop's warranty?
