Why a Guitar Needs One Here

Martin's humidity bulletin lists what low humidity does, sharp fret ends, a sunken top, cracks. Martin's care guide recommends keeping a guitar at 45 to 55 percent relative humidity, checked with a hygrometer, and Martin's FAQ says damage from conditions outside that range isn't covered under warranty. Which One

The Oasis OH-1 is the soundhole humidifier for an acoustic: it hangs inside the guitar from its own stabilizer bar so it never touches the body, you can see at a glance when it needs a refill, and two levels of leak protection keep water off the top. Oasis recommends it where the room sits between 25 and 40 percent humidity. The Oasis OH-6 is the case humidifier: two neodymium magnets hold it to a steel clip over the side of the case or to an adhesive steel strip inside the lid, made for instruments with no soundhole to hang one in, archtops, mandolins, violins, and the headstock end of a guitar case. The Oasis OH-14 Case Plus+ is the same case mount with the higher-output Plus+ membrane, about half again as much moisture per day, which Oasis makes for rooms below 25 percent. The Martin humidifier is the simple one: a soft resin tube that sits in the soundhole, with a water-absorbing stem inside that holds up to ten times its weight in water and releases it slowly. And the Oasis OH-2+ is the hygrometer that tells you whether any of it is working: it reads humidity to within 3 percent between 20 and 80 percent, and the range goes down to 10, so a bone-dry room shows a number instead of an error.
