Q&A
How many hours a day do you spend holding a guitar?
At least a half hour of practice a day if I'm not already playing a 3-hour gig!
What is the last song you learned all the way through?
The Downeaster 'Alexa by Billy Joel.
What is something you always packed on tour that you don't need anymore?
A real amplifier. Before modelers got great.
What was the first show you ever played in Glens Falls?
Samantha's Cafe on South Street when I was 14, in 2002.
What is the longest stretch you were ever out on the road?
European tour for a couple months. Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden.
What was the first pedal you ever bought?
Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner!
How many guitars are in your house right now?
About 6, but one is Paul's Telecaster lol.
What is something you figured out in one band that carried into the next one?
Don't sweat the small stuff. Be flexible and hear out your bandmates' ideas. They might actually be good!!
What is your favorite food after a show?
Something full of protein like a bunch of eggs.
What is something you carry in your guitar case that has nothing to do with guitar?
Ibuprofen.
What does it feel like to play in a town where people remember the earlier stuff?
Gotta keep stepping your game up or people will get bored with you!
What do you drink while you're on stage?
Water and a little Pepsi/Coke.
What is the hardest song you have ever tried to play?
Well, now it's anything by Angine de Poitrine. Because I don't have a microtonal guitar.
How many times have you changed your "perfect" setup?
Not many! I've added things, but kept my basic tones pretty much the same — built around a Gibson ES-335.
What time do you usually go to sleep?
Nowadays it's a lot earlier. Probably around 11. It used to be 3 or 4am.
