Favorite Gear Right Now
Totally obsessed with the Chandler Curve Bender and there's a freshly refretted 1970 SG Standard hanging around here that sounds lovely and I've been modelling pedals with the Quad Cortex
Q&A
What was the first record you bought with your own money?
Bush — 16 Stone on cassette. Third Eye Blind self-titled on CD.
Do you prefer the shop when it is raining or sunny?
They both have their thing.
What is something you own that is older than this building?
My soul.
How many keys are on your shop key ring?
Wouldn't you like to know!
What is something you own that you would not sell?
My Les Paul Studio that I've had since 2004.
Which chair in the shop is the most comfortable?
Oh easy — the Secret Labs for sure.
What is a song that sounds like Glens Falls in the winter?
"Our Prayer" by The Beach Boys.
What is your favorite food?
Pizza. Cliché, I know.
What was the last show you went to?
The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie.
What is the last record that actually stopped you?
I always find new things to fall in love with. I can't stop listening to the score for Fire Walk with Me by Angelo Badalamenti. Phoebe Bridgers and Sleep Token are newish obsessions.
What is a piece of gear in the shop you secretly want to keep?
I make an effort to avoid this. All of it!
What is something you ended up being better at than you expected?
Making the Hideout happen.
Do you notice a difference between wood types?
With acoustics, yes.
What do you do when the shop is empty?
Catch up on work. Reflect on my gratitude.
Where did the name "Hideout" come from?
I thought a wild west-coded guitar shop by someone who knows nothing about it would have a campy enough aesthetic to maybe just work.
