Guitar Lessons Near Queensbury, NY
Paul's Guitar Hideout is 10 minutes south of Queensbury on Route 9. In-person one-on-one guitar lessons with Travis Gray of Wild Adriatic.
Where We Are
We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 19th century textile mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If you need assistance, give us a call and we'll come down.
Who's Teaching
Travis Gray of Wild Adriatic fame teaches here. Reach out through the contact page to book. Full background on his instructor page.
How Lessons Work
Travis listens to what you want and builds a plan for it. He'll work on the songs you actually want to play, the foundation underneath them, technique, riffs, songwriting, getting ready to perform — whatever the goal is. The first session is about where you're starting and where you want to go.
See the main lessons page for more, or what to expect from your first lesson.
Younger Students
Around age 8 is a realistic starting point for most young beginners. Younger can work if the student is motivated and physically ready for a 3/4-scale or small-body guitar. If they're not ready yet, we'll say so. More: guitar lessons for kids.
Winter Lessons and the Setup Problem
A guitar that played fine in September often doesn't in January. Indoor humidity in Upstate New York drops hard once the heat kicks on (forced air, woodstoves, baseboard) and student guitars feel it first. Buzzing that wasn't there in October. Acoustics that suddenly fight the player. Action creeping up. It's the guitar, not the student, and it's fixable. If a younger player is struggling mid-winter, it's worth bringing the guitar in before chalking it up to motivation.
Before the First Lesson
If you need a guitar, come in first. We have new and used options across a wide range. A $79 setup on the guitar before the first lesson helps a lot. High action is the most common reason beginners think guitar is harder than it should be, and it's almost always fixable. See when a beginner should get a setup.
