A Martin DSS-16E in the refreshed 16 Series, Cherry Cola. A slope-shoulder dreadnought with a gloss spruce top in the Cherry Cola finish over satin solid mahogany back and sides, forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, and a grained ivoroid pickguard. Short 24.9 inch scale, 1 3/4 inch bone nut, select hardwood neck in the Modified Low Oval profile with a high-performance taper, ebony fingerboard and straightline bridge, nickel open-gear tuners. L.R. Baggs Element electronics.
What is new is the scale. Martin put the 24.9 inch short scale under the slope-shoulder body for the first time, which drops string tension and makes the guitar feel relaxed under the hand. Mahogany and the slope shoulders give it a woody, intimate voice with punchy mids and a focused low end rather than the boom of a square-shouldered rosewood D.
