Guitar Setup in the Adirondacks

Paul's Guitar Hideout is in Glens Falls, in the Adirondack foothills, in Glens Falls. $79 standard, $99 specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical). Drop off during shop hours, no appointment. Our repair work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault.

Glens Falls has called itself the Gateway to the Adirondacks for a century, and it still is: Exit 18 is the last real town before the park. Anyone coming down 87 from Schroon Lake, Chestertown, or North Creek passes us on the way to anything else.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 1902 shirt mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

What a Setup Includes

Truss rod to correct relief. Nut slots checked and filed if high. Saddle action dialed to your preference. Intonation verified at the 12th fret. Fretboard conditioned when it's dry. Fresh strings installed. More on what a setup covers and why: what a guitar setup includes and why it matters.

Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Standard vs. Specialty

Standard, $79: Most electrics, most acoustics, most basses. Full setup, fresh strings.

Specialty, $99: Floyd Rose and other double-locking tremolos, 12-strings, classicals. The extra covers the additional setup time these instruments need.

Some guitars need more than a setup, and a few aren't worth the work: how to know if a guitar is worth repairing.

The Drive

Glens Falls is the foothills. From Lake George about 15 minutes, Warrensburg about 20, Bolton Landing about 30, Chestertown about 35. I-87 Exit 18, then the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory. Drop-off takes a few minutes. We look at the guitar with you and confirm standard or specialty.
