Guitar Lessons in the Adirondacks

Paul's Guitar Hideout in Glens Falls offers in-person guitar lessons with Travis Gray of Wild Adriatic. He teaches beginners of all ages one-on-one at the shop. The shop is at the southern edge of the Park. Lessons run 30 minutes for $40 or 60 minutes for $80. Lessons cover acoustic and electric guitar across all styles. Glens Falls has called itself the Gateway to the Adirondacks for a century, and it still is: Exit 18 is the last real town before the park. Anyone coming down 87 from Schroon Lake, Chestertown, or North Creek passes us on the way to anything else.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

The Adirondacks start at the top of Queensbury: six million acres, the largest park in the contiguous United States, a hundred-odd towns and villages inside it, and Glens Falls is the city in the foothills at the bottom.

The Drive Math

From Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, or Tupper Lake: 90 minutes to 2 hours each way. From Old Forge or Long Lake: about 2 hours. From the southern edge of the Park (Lake George, Warrensburg, Chestertown, Schroon Lake), 10 to 45 minutes and the weekly pattern works fine.

For deep-Park distances, weekly lessons aren't realistic for most beginners. If you live in Long Lake and a beginner in the household wants to learn, finding local instruction is the right call.

How Lessons Work

Travis listens to what you want and builds a plan for it. He'll work on the songs you actually want to play, the foundation underneath them, technique, riffs, songwriting, or getting ready to perform, whatever the goal is. The first session is about where you're starting and where you want to go.

Before Your First Lesson

If you need a guitar, we have new and used options across a wide range. It's often worth leaving the guitar you bring with us for a $79 setup. Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Built Around Real Playing

Travis's teaching is built around real playing. He's spent years writing songs, arranging music with other people, making records, touring, and playing in front of audiences.
