Guitar Picks in the Adirondacks

Guitar picks in the Adirondacks: Paul's Guitar Hideout is in Glens Falls, in the Adirondack foothills. Two dozen pick packs from D'Addario and Dunlop, from $5.49, in a range of shapes and gauges.

Glens Falls has called itself the Gateway to the Adirondacks for a century, and it still is: Exit 18 is the last real town before the park. Anyone coming down 87 from Schroon Lake, Chestertown, or North Creek passes us on the way to anything else.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 1902 shirt mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

Picks We Stock

D'Addario and Dunlop, standard shapes and thumb picks, thin through heavy. Picks are the cheapest experiment in guitar, and the one most players never run. Grab a variety pack and play the same song with each gauge.

If You're Starting Out

Start with a medium. It bends enough to forgive a heavy hand on strumming and holds up enough for single notes. Move thinner if you mostly strum, heavier if you mostly pick. More for new players: how to choose your first guitar.

The Drive

Glens Falls is the foothills. From Lake George about 15 minutes, Warrensburg about 20, Bolton Landing about 30, Chestertown about 35. I-87 Exit 18, then the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory.
