Guitar Repair in the Adirondacks
Paul's Guitar Hideout in Glens Falls runs a full-service repair bench at the southern gateway to the Adirondack region. Fret leveling, electronics, structural repairs, setups. Flat pricing, diagnosed with you present.
Where We Are
We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, one of the more interesting buildings in the region. It's a converted 19th century textile mill that's become a hub for artists, makers, craftspeople, and independent businesses. Painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, and now a guitar shop. The building has a creative energy that fits what we do. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If you need assistance, give us a call and we'll come down.
What the Adirondacks Do to Guitars
Winter in the Park is harsh. Sub-zero stretches. Heated indoor spaces that drop to brutal humidity levels by February. Camps heated intermittently and swinging between damp and desert-dry. We see the consequences at the bench every spring: cracked tops, lifted bridges, necks that moved beyond what a truss rod can correct, sharp fret ends from fretboard contraction. Full seasonal context: the Adirondack guitar player's seasonal maintenance checklist.
Summer has its own pattern. High humidity, wood swell, action climbs, acoustics can develop high bellies behind the bridge.
Setups
Standard setup is $79. Specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical) is $99. Truss rod, action at the nut and saddle, intonation, fretboard conditioning, fresh strings.
Repair Work We Handle
Fret leveling, dressing, and crowning. Partial and full refrets. Nut replacement. Saddle work. Tuner replacement. Pickup installation and swaps. Pot, cap, and output jack replacement. Bridge reglue on acoustics. Crack repair and stabilization. Neck reset evaluation. Not sure if a guitar is worth repairing? How to know if a guitar is worth repairing.
What we refer out: restoration-grade refinishing on vintage instruments, major structural rebuilds on high-value pieces. For those jobs the right answer is a specialist. We'll tell you that directly.
The Drive
From Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, or Old Forge: 90 minutes to 2 hours each way. From the southern edge of the Park (Lake George, Warrensburg, Chestertown, Schroon Lake), shorter.
Call ahead for a realistic turnaround. Some jobs take a week, structural work longer. Pickup can happen on a separate trip or bundled with another Glens Falls visit.
When to Bring It Down
Spring is the most common intake. Winter damage has stabilized and any cracks or structural issues have declared themselves. Fall setups catch what will become a problem over the heated-dry winter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a guitar repair shop inside the Adirondack Park?
A: Paul's Guitar Hideout in Glens Falls is at the southern gateway to the Park — full-service repair bench, no appointment needed.
Q: My acoustic cracked over the winter at my camp. Can you fix it?
A: Bring it in. Humidity-related cracks are something we handle regularly. We'll diagnose it with you and give you a flat number before anything starts.
Q: Can I drop off and pick up on separate trips?
A: Yes. A lot of Adirondack customers do that. Drop off one trip, pick up the next. Tell us your timeline at intake.
Q: Is the drive worth it from deep in the Park?
A: Depends on the job. For a simple setup, probably not. Find someone closer or ship to us. For diagnosis-heavy work or anything you want to walk a tech through in person, yes. Call first and we'll tell you which side of that line your guitar is on.
Q: Do you guys buy guitars?
A: Reach out via call or text at (518) 217-8695 to discuss what you have. If it's not right for the shop, we can help direct you in how to sell it elsewhere.
