Fender 70th Anniversary Stratocaster: Loose Trem Springs, High Nut

Back of a white Fender 70th Anniversary Stratocaster on the repair bench, showing the open tremolo spring cavity

A Fender 70th Anniversary Strat of ours came in for a setup with high action, loose trem springs, a high nut and pickups all over the place. Everything was set, it was restrung with 10s, and it set up nicely in an hour and ten minutes.

What Came In

A Fender 70th Anniversary Stratocaster, one of our own, in for a setup.

What We Found

The action was high and the trem springs were too loose. The intonation was off, the nut was high, the string height was off at the saddles, and the pickup height was all over the place. There was also pickguard plastic sitting under the knobs.

What We Did

Set the trem springs and restrung it with 10s. Set the truss rod and lowered the nut. Fixed the saddle height and dialed in the intonation. Took the plastic out from under the knobs and adjusted the pickup height.
