Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

Albany is the capital, the big city at the bottom of the Northway, and we're the top of the same map: Glens Falls is the far north end of the Capital District.

The Fender Standard Precision Bass

The Precision Bass came out in 1951 and gave bassists frets and volume an upright couldn't. The Fender Standard P carries that on with a Fender Standard pickup and a Modern "C" neck. The full list is under basses in stock. Want every Fender line we carry, with prices? That's on our Fender guitars in Glens Falls page.

What's on the Wall

On the wall as of November 6, 2026: 8 new basses, Fender and Squier, from $259.99 to $1,499.99. On the Fender side, two Vintera III basses (an Early '70s Jazz Bass and a Late '60s Precision Bass) and a Standard Precision Bass. The Squier tier runs Affinity Precision Bass (a PJ, so both pickup voices in one instrument) and Sonic Precision Bass, and the Sonic Bronco Bass, a 30-inch short-scale that suits smaller hands and guitar players moving over. There's also a Fender CB-60SCE acoustic bass for playing without an amp.

For amps we carry the Fender Rumble line: the Rumble 15 for practice, the Rumble 40 for rehearsal and small rooms, and the Rumble Studio 40 with built-in amp modeling. Bass strings from D'Addario and Ernie Ball in long and short scale, four- and five-string sets, roundwound and Chromes flatwound, and Fender padded gig bags in two sizes.

Used basses come through on trade-in and consignment, so our used gear is worth checking. Inventory rotates weekly.

Precision or Jazz

The two Fender shapes are different instruments. A Precision has one split pickup and a wider neck at the nut; the sound is thick and sits under a band without any work. A Jazz Bass has two single-coils and a narrower neck, brighter and more articulate, with more tone shaping from the two volume knobs. Most players who are unsure end up on a Precision. The Squier Affinity PJ splits the difference for a first bass: a P pickup at the neck and a J pickup at the bridge.

Short Scale

Standard Fender basses are 34-inch scale. The Sonic Bronco is 30-inch, which means a shorter reach between frets and lower string tension. It's the bass we point guitar players to when they're picking up a second instrument, and it's the one most kids under about twelve can actually play.

Trade-In

If you have an older bass or guitar to put toward a new one, bring it in. We evaluate it in person and apply credit toward the new purchase. See the trade page.

Setup

New basses come set to the manufacturer's factory spec, and bass necks move more than guitar necks with the seasons here. If you want a full $79 setup to your preferences before taking the bass home, we can do that. Bass restrings are on the pricing page.

Q: Do you have short-scale basses?
A: Yes. The Squier Sonic Bronco Bass is a 30-inch short-scale, and we carry short-scale string sets for it.

Q: Do you sell bass amps?
A: Yes. Fender Rumble 15, Rumble 40, and Rumble Studio 40 are on the floor, and you can play any bass through them before you buy.

Q: Can I order a Fender bass you don't have?
A: If it's currently in Fender's production lineup, yes. When Fender has it available, it usually arrives in 1–2 weeks. Call or text with the model.

A: Yes, for $79, or $99 on orders of $2,000 to $2,999. Pickup at the shop is free.

Q: Can I play one before I buy?
A: Yes. Call or text (518) 217-8695 and we'll hold it for you.

All the areas we serve

The reason players drive up from Albany instead of ordering a bass online comes down to necks. Two examples of the same model can feel different in the hand, and a bass is a bigger physical commitment than a guitar. Playing the actual instrument you are buying is the whole point of a shop.

The Vintera III Precision Bass is the one collectors pick up first: era-styled neck profile and pickup voicing aimed at a specific stretch of Fender history rather than a modern do-everything spec. It rewards players who already know which records they are chasing.
