Guitar Repair Near Albany, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is 45 minutes north of Albany in Glens Falls. Setups, fret work, electronics, structural repairs. Flat pricing, diagnosed with you present. No appointment needed. The bench's work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault: real repairs, what came in, what we found, what we did. Setups are $79 standard, $109 deluxe and $99 specialty, strings extra; a full fret level is $299, a bone nut or saddle $179, and electronics diagnosis $69 an hour.

Exit 18 is a straight shot up I-87: no turns, no city traffic, about forty-five minutes from the Empire Plaza.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

Albany is the capital, the big city at the bottom of the Northway, and we're the top of the same map: Glens Falls is the far north end of the Capital District.

From the Bench: Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster: Tuning Instability and Swapped Saddles

What came in: A Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster in Copper Age, the signature model with the bound maple fingerboard and block inlays. What we found: Two of the saddles had been swapped, so the bridge radius was wrong. What we did: Swapped the saddles back to improve the bridge radius, then adjusted the intonation, truss rod and bridge height. Result: The guitar left set up. Setups

Standard setup is $79: truss rod, action at the nut and saddle, intonation, and a restring (strings extra). Deluxe is $109 and is the one we usually recommend; it also cleans and conditions the fretboard and tightens and lubricates all the hardware. Specialty setups (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical) are $99.

Repair Work

Fret leveling and dressing. Refrets, full or partial. Nut replacement in bone. Saddle work. Tuner replacement. Pickup installation and swaps. Pot, cap, and jack replacement. Rewire jobs. Bridge reglue on acoustics. Crack repair and stabilization. Neck reset evaluation. Common diagnostic questions: what is fret buzz and how to fix it, how to know if a guitar needs a fret level.

What we refer out: restoration-grade refinishing on vintage instruments, major structural rebuilds on high-value pieces. Spray work needs ventilation this shop isn't set up for. If your job belongs with a specialist luthier, we'll tell you.

How It Works

Bring the guitar in, we look at it with you, the problem gets explained, you get a flat number before anything starts. If something shifts mid-repair, you hear about it before we keep going.
