9N down the west side of the lake to the village, then 87 south, about thirty minutes. Bolton is a summer town, and a guitar left in an unheated lake house over the winter comes out in spring with sharp fret ends and a dry top. Bring it down before it goes back up.
The Drive
Bolton Landing is a lake town inside the park, on the west shore of Lake George with the Schroon River on the far side of the town, the kind of place families have been coming back to for two hundred years.
About 30 minutes: 9N down the lake to Lake George village, then Route 9 or I-87 south to Glens Falls. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory.
From the Bench: Godin: Scratchy Electronics and a Setup for 10s

What came in: A Godin electric. The owner wanted to move from 9s to 10s and have the guitar set up for the heavier strings. What we found: The electronics were scratchy and needed cleaning. What we did: Cleaned the electronics. Result: A nice playing Godin, in Dave's words. The full write-up is in the Repair Vault, under Godin: Scratchy Electronics and a Setup for 10s.

Where We Are
We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.
Setups
Standard setup is $79: truss rod, action at the nut and saddle, intonation, and a restring (strings extra). Deluxe is $109 and is the one we usually recommend; it also cleans and conditions the fretboard and tightens and lubricates all the hardware. Specialty setups (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical) are $99.
Repair Work
Fret leveling and dressing. Refrets, full or partial. Nut replacement in bone. Saddle work. Tuner replacement. Pickup installation and swaps. Pot, cap, and jack replacement. Rewire jobs. Bridge reglue on acoustics. Crack repair and stabilization. Neck reset evaluation. Common diagnostic questions: what is fret buzz and how to fix it, how to know if a guitar needs a fret level.
What we refer out: restoration-grade refinishing on vintage instruments, major structural rebuilds on high-value pieces. Spray finishing needs ventilation we aren't tooled up for. If your job belongs with a specialist luthier, we say so.
How It Works
Bring the guitar in, we look at it with you, the problem gets explained, and you get a flat price before anything starts. If it's not worth repairing, we say so. We wrote it up in how to know if a guitar is worth repairing.
Turnaround
Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate.
