Guitar Setup Near Bolton Landing, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is about 30 minutes south of Bolton Landing, in Glens Falls. $79 standard, $109 deluxe, $99 specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical). Drop off during shop hours, no appointment. Our repair work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault.

9N down the west side of the lake to the village, then 87 south, about thirty minutes. Bolton is a summer town, and a guitar left in an unheated lake house over the winter comes out in spring with sharp fret ends and a dry top. Bring it down before it goes back up.

The Drive

Bolton Landing is a lake town inside the park, on the west shore of Lake George with the Schroon River on the far side of the town, the kind of place families have been coming back to for two hundred years.

About 30 minutes: 9N down the lake to Lake George village, then Route 9 or I-87 south to Glens Falls. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory. Drop-off takes a few minutes. We look at the guitar with you and confirm standard or specialty.

What came in: A Hofner bass. The output jack was loose and the owner wanted the bass set up. What we found: The jack was loose and spinning freely. What we did: Tightened the jack and confirmed it worked. Result: The jack is solid, the bridge is where it should be, and the intonation checked out. Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

What a Setup Includes

Truss rod to correct relief. Nut slots checked and filed if high. Saddle action dialed to your preference. Intonation verified at the 12th fret. Fresh strings installed (strings are extra). For more on what a setup covers and why, read what a guitar setup includes and why it matters.

Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Standard, Deluxe, or Specialty

Standard, $79: Most electrics, most acoustics, most basses. Full setup; strings are extra.

Deluxe, $109: Everything in the standard plus headstock-to-strap-button detailing, all hardware tightened and lubricated, and the fretboard cleaned and conditioned. The one we usually recommend.

Specialty, $99: Floyd Rose and other double-locking tremolos, 12-strings, classicals. The extra covers the additional setup time these instruments need.
