Guitar Setup Near Saratoga Springs, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is in Glens Falls, thirty minutes north of Saratoga on I-87. $79 standard, $109 deluxe, $99 specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical), strings extra. Drop off during shop hours, no appointment. Some of our setup work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault.

Northway north to Exit 18, about thirty minutes from Broadway. Left off the exit, straight into downtown Glens Falls, park in the Cooper Street lot.

The Drive

Saratoga is the big neighbor to the south: the track, SPAC and Broadway, a resort city for two hundred years and still growing, with the Northway running right alongside it.

I-87 north, Exit 18 or 19. Parking in the Cooper Street lot at the Shirt Factory. Drop-off is a few minutes. We look at the guitar with you and confirm standard or specialty.

From Our Setup Work: PRS S2 Studio: Setup for the Move from 9s to 10s

What came in: A PRS S2 Studio Limited Edition in Frost Blue Metallic with a mint pickguard, the HSS run with a Starla bridge humbucker and two Type-D single coils. What we found: Going to the heavier strings pulled the guitar out of spec: intonation, saddle height, tremolo spring tension and truss rod all needed adjusting. What we did: Restrung with a fresh set of 10s and adjusted the intonation, saddle height, tremolo springs and truss rod for the new tension. Result: The guitar liked the 10s, in Dave's words. Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

What a Setup Includes

Truss rod to correct relief. Nut slots checked and filed if high. Saddle action dialed to your preference. Intonation verified at the 12th fret. Fresh strings installed (strings are extra). For more on what a setup covers and why, read what a guitar setup includes and why it matters.

Standard, Deluxe, or Specialty

Standard, $79: Most electrics, most acoustics, most basses. Full setup; strings are extra.

Deluxe, $109: Everything in the standard plus headstock-to-strap-button detailing, all hardware tightened and lubricated, and the fretboard cleaned and conditioned. The one we usually recommend.

Specialty, $99: Floyd Rose and other double-locking tremolos, 12-strings, classicals. The extra covers the additional setup time these instruments need.

Cadence

For acoustics in this region, two setups a year (spring and fall) keeps the guitar dialed through both humidity directions.
