Guitar Setup Near Granville and Whitehall, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is about 40 minutes west of Granville and Whitehall, in Glens Falls. $79 standard, $109 deluxe, $99 specialty (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical). Drop off during shop hours, no appointment. Our repair work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault.

Route 149 west from Granville, Route 4 south from Whitehall, about forty minutes either way. There hasn't been a guitar shop on that side of the county in years. Both roads come into Glens Falls from the east.

The Drive

Granville and Whitehall are the far side of Washington County, up against Vermont: Granville is slate country, quarries and a Main Street that turns into a Vermont road at the edge of the village, and Whitehall is the canal town at the bottom of Lake Champlain.

From Granville, Route 149 west to Glens Falls, about 40 minutes. From Whitehall, Route 4 south, about the same. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory. Drop-off takes a few minutes. We look at the guitar with you and confirm standard or specialty.

What came in: An Ibanez Roadstar II. What we found: The pots, switch and jack were all corroded and dusty and needed cleaning. What we did: Pulled the pickguard to clean out the electronics. Result: A big change from 8s to 10s, and it sounded great with everything cleaned up. Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

What a Setup Includes

Truss rod to correct relief. Nut slots checked and filed if high. Saddle action dialed to your preference. Intonation verified at the 12th fret. Fresh strings installed (strings are extra). For more on what a setup covers and why, read what a guitar setup includes and why it matters.

Service is first come, first served. Need it back by a certain date? Let us know at drop-off and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Standard, Deluxe, or Specialty

Standard, $79: Most electrics, most acoustics, most basses. Full setup; strings are extra.

Deluxe, $109: Everything in the standard plus headstock-to-strap-button detailing, all hardware tightened and lubricated, and the fretboard cleaned and conditioned. The one we usually recommend.

Specialty, $99: Floyd Rose and other double-locking tremolos, 12-strings, classicals. The extra covers the additional setup time these instruments need.
