Guitar Repair Near Granville and Whitehall, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is about 40 minutes west of Granville and Whitehall, in Glens Falls. Setups, fret work, electronics, structural repairs, with a flat price agreed before anything starts. No appointment needed to drop off. Our repair work is documented publicly in the Repair Vault: real repairs, what came in, what we found, what we did. Setups are $79 standard, $109 deluxe and $99 specialty, strings extra; a full fret level is $299, a bone nut or saddle $179, and electronics diagnosis $69 an hour.

Route 149 west from Granville, Route 4 south from Whitehall, about forty minutes either way. There hasn't been a guitar shop on that side of the county in years. Both roads come into Glens Falls from the east.

The Drive

Granville and Whitehall are the far side of Washington County, up against Vermont: Granville is slate country, quarries and a Main Street that turns into a Vermont road at the edge of the village, and Whitehall is the canal town at the bottom of Lake Champlain.

From Granville, Route 149 west to Glens Falls, about 40 minutes. From Whitehall, Route 4 south, about the same. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory.

What came in: An Ibanez seven-string. What we found: Beyond the swap, the truss rod needed adjustment, the nut was uneven, and the saddle height and intonation were off. What we did: Swapped the bridge pickup and followed the Ibanez wiring diagram to return the guitar to factory spec. Result: Sounded great and balanced, back on the factory electronics. Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

Setups

Standard setup is $79: truss rod, action at the nut and saddle, intonation, and a restring (strings extra). Deluxe is $109 and is the one we usually recommend; it also cleans and conditions the fretboard and tightens and lubricates all the hardware. Specialty setups (Floyd Rose, 12-string, classical) are $99.

Repair Work

Fret leveling and dressing. Refrets, full or partial. Nut replacement in bone. Saddle work. Tuner replacement. Pickup installation and swaps. Pot, cap, and jack replacement. Rewire jobs. Bridge reglue on acoustics. Crack repair and stabilization. Neck reset evaluation. Common diagnostic questions: what is fret buzz and how to fix it, how to know if a guitar needs a fret level.

What we refer out: restoration-grade refinishing on vintage instruments, major structural rebuilds on high-value pieces. Spray finishing needs ventilation we aren't tooled up for. If your job belongs with a specialist luthier, we say so.

How It Works
