Guitar Lessons Near Ballston Spa, NY

Paul's Guitar Hideout is about 35 minutes north of Ballston Spa, in Glens Falls. One-on-one guitar lessons with Travis Gray of Wild Adriatic, taught in person at the shop. Beginners, kids, and players coming back to it. Lessons run 30 minutes for $40 or 60 minutes for $80. Lessons cover acoustic and electric guitar across all styles. Route 50 to the Northway, north to Exit 18, about thirty-five minutes.

The Drive

Ballston Spa is the county seat, a small Victorian village five miles south of Saratoga with a downtown you walk: the courthouse crowd on weekdays, the shops and galleries and antique stores the rest of the time.

About 35 minutes: Route 50 or Route 9 to I-87 north, Exit 18. Park in the Cooper Street lot at The Shirt Factory.

Where We Are

We're on the second floor of The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls. The building went up in 1902 as a men's shirt factory and made shirts until 1996. Today it's home to more than 70 studios, shops and galleries, and now a guitar shop. Use the Cooper Street entrance and take the stairs up. If stairs are difficult or you're bringing in something you don't want to carry up, call or text us and we'll arrange access.

How Lessons Work

Travis listens to what you want and builds a plan for it. He'll work on the songs you actually want to play, the foundation underneath them, technique, riffs, songwriting, or getting ready to perform, whatever the goal is. The first session is about where you're starting and where you want to go.

Younger Beginners

For a younger beginner: we offer 3/4-size electrics and smaller-body acoustics that fit hands and arms still growing into a full-size guitar. A full-size guitar can also be appropriate depending on the player. Bringing the beginner in is the best way to figure out which way to go.

Before the First Lesson

If you need a guitar, new and used inventory is worth browsing while you're up. It's often worth dropping your existing guitar off on the same trip for a $79 setup, because a guitar that fights you slows the learning down. Service is first come, first served. Structure or a Riff

Some students want more structure. Others show up with a song, riff, or idea they want to figure out. Travis teaches from the music, not the other way around.
