The HD-28 is the D-28 with the pre-war trim: herringbone around the top, diamonds and squares on the fingerboard, and the scalloped forward-shifted bracing that goes with it. Same solid spruce over East Indian rosewood, same 1 3/4 inch bone nut and Modified Low Oval neck.
Scalloped bracing is why this is the loud one. The top moves more, the bass comes forward, and the overtones stack up under the trebles. 2025 refresh: thinner fingerboard, slimmer heel and bridge, Golden Era top bracing.
