What Came In

A blue Taylor 612ce acoustic-electric, in for a setup.

What We Found

The action was high and the neck had more relief than it needed. The nut was uneven.

What We Did

Adjusted the truss rod. Lowered the action by lowering the saddle. Filed the nut to even out the strings. Tested the electronics. About 50 minutes on the bench.

Result

Low, fast action, in Dave's words.

Why is high action on an acoustic two adjustments and not one?

The truss rod controls the bow in the middle of the neck and the saddle controls the height at the bridge. Pushing either one alone to do the whole job leaves a guitar that buzzes in one spot and fights you in another. The nut is the part players rarely suspect, because it only affects the first few frets.
