The DSS-16E is the slope-shoulder dreadnought in the new 16 Series, and what is new is the scale: Martin put the 24.9 inch short scale under this body for the first time. Gloss Cherry Cola spruce top over satin solid mahogany, forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, L.R. Baggs Element electronics already in it.
The short scale drops string tension and makes the guitar feel relaxed under the hand. Mahogany and the slope shoulders give it a woody, intimate voice with punchy mids and a focused low end, not the boom of a square-shouldered rosewood D. 1 3/4 inch bone nut, ebony fingerboard, nickel open-gear tuners.
