The Martin D-28 is the dreadnought standard. Since 1931, it's defined the steel-string flattop sound on country, bluegrass, rock, and folk records — Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page all built their playing around one. Sitka spruce top over East Indian rosewood back and sides, select hardwood neck with the GE Modified Low Oval profile, ebony fingerboard and bridge, 1-3/4" bone nut, 25.4" scale.
The refreshed Standard Series uses GE-scalloped forward-shifted X bracing (borrowed from the Modern Deluxe line) for a more open, responsive feel than the post-war version, with the bigger low-end and shimmering highs the rosewood-and-spruce combination is known for. Where the D-18 stays warm and mid-focused, the D-28 opens up: bigger bass, more headroom, more body when you dig in.
