The Martin GPC-X2E Cocobolo is the Grand Performance cutaway X Series: hand-rubbed satin Sitka spruce top over cocobolo-pattern high-pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides, in a Grand Performance body shape with a Venetian cutaway. GP is Martin's split-the-difference body (narrower than a dreadnought, deeper than an OM) designed to give performing players balanced tone, added bass, and easy stage access to the upper frets. Abalone-pattern rosette, select hardwood neck with comfort-beveled fingerboard, refined string spacing, Martin E1 electronics with built-in chromatic tuner and volume/tone/phase controls.
The solid spruce top is where the GPC-X2E earns its price over the all-HPL X1 line — more open response, more dynamic range, real Martin top resonance, while the HPL back and sides keep it stage-durable. The cutaway gets you to the 14th fret cleanly without compromising the body's projection.
